About Steve Meredith

I am the proud product of small town America, and consider one of the greatest blessings of my life the day my parents made the decision in 1961 to move our family from the "big city" to rural Kentucky.  Except for the first 8 years of my life and the time spent at college, Leitchfield, Kentucky has been my home.  Most of the invaluable life experiences, lessons and values I cherish are a result of being raised in a small community.  I will be eternally grateful to have been provided this opportunity.

I have been married for 35 years to Karen Elizabeth Peerce Meredith, a second grade teacher at Clarkson Elementary School, and we have two sons  Our eldest son, Chad,is an attorney and presently serving as the Deputy General Counsel to Governor Matt Bevin.  Chad is married to the former Rebekah Link of Leitchfield. Our youngest son, Bryce, is a physician and currently completing his residency in Family Medicine at the UK Medical Center.  Bryce is married to the former Kellie Wilber of Mayfield. Our sons and daughters-in-law have blessed us with 4 grandchildren - 6 year old twins, Stephen Benjamin and Elizabeth Grace Meredith, 3 year old, Emma Catherine and 18 month old, Addison Kate.

We are also the proud owner of two lively, rambunctious laborador retrievers, Bailey and Barkley.

I graduated from Leitchfield High School in 1971, Western Kentucky University in 1975 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Business Administration and the University of Minnesota in 1986 with a Masters degree in Hospital Administration. I recently retired as a hospital Chief Executive Officer having served in that capacity for 30 years. I have served on numerous Boards of Directors and civic groups throughout the state as well as locally.

I am running for office because, to paraphrase the late President Ronald Reagan, I want to represent the real unsung heroes of our state - the men and women who go to work each and every day, pay taxes, stretch their hard-earned dollars to make ends meet, pay for their children's education, coach their children's athletic teams,  contribute to their church and their favorite charities, understand there is no such thing as a free lunch, and ask nothing from their goverment other than to not make life more difficult for them.
